An evening at Ravinia

Updated: Aug 12, 2018

Ravinia is one of the oldest outdoor music festivals in the United States located just north, outside Chicago in Highland Park. It is greatly known for its open lawn access to hundreds of amazing performances all summer long.

This time my boyfriend and I got to enjoy a modern day opera play. One of the cool things about Ravinia is that is accessible for everyone. Ravinia counts with an open air pavilion and a theater for its seated performances, but also offers reduced cost tickets for anyone that wants to enjoy performances on the lawn. For me, that's the best part about Ravinia. You are welcome to bring everything you need to set up a romantic picnic for two or a fun area for the entire family.

If picnicking is not for you, they also have several restaurants. We got to try the upscale restaurant, Park View, on the second floor with an amazing view of the park. I had a delicious salmon on a bed of lentils and green beans and my boyfriend had a juicy burger with whole fried potatoes. They have a full top shelf bar and a nice selection of wine. We did not make it to desert as we had everything we needed to complete the evening out at the lawn.

Find yourself a nice stop anywhere throughout the lawn and get settled in for a magical evening. Don’t forget to bring a blanket or picnic mat, mosquito repellent, which we forgot! No bueno - and your picnic favorite foods. Since we had dinner earlier we only brought in some cheese, sausage and fruit, a cold bottle of prosecco or two, and brownie bites in our picnic bag. We played some cards that we picked up at their cute gift shop and enjoyed our snacks while listening to the play through the parks strategically placed outdoor speakers.

Couldn't have asked for a more romantic and special night, great company and an amazing outdoor experience, and to top it off the weather was beautiful.
